L.A. Hair’s first season featured hairstylist Kim Kimble and her colorful team as they created glamorous and unique looks for Hollywood’s A-list. This season, the savvy and sassy Naja Rickette, a veteran of the nail industry with a star-studded client list including Lady Gaga, Katy Perry, Fergie, Mariah Carey and Pink joins the team to add professional nail services to the menu.





“When Kim first mentioned that her producers were looking for a nail stylist to add to her show, I was not interested in applying,” admitted Naja. “Then, I started to think about what a great opportunity it would be elevate the public’s awareness of nail fashion, and to showcase what stunning styles a nail artist can create.” While Naja admits she was initially worried about how she would portrayed on the show after the editing process, “I realized the show is entertainment first, but while people are watching the drama they will also learn about the nail profession, and that’s my primary goal.


Naja also confided that although LA Hair is a reality show, specific products cannot be mentioned on camera. “It’s also true that even though there are cameras, cords, wires and hot lights, you really do begin to ignore the cameras and forget there is a crew in the background,” Naja admitted. “And, I was also surprised by how many hours you have to put into being on the show. It’s like having a second full-time job!” she asserted.



Over the course of the three-month series, Naja will be available for interviews to give viewers the behind-the-scenes details for that week’s episode, and to provide information about the hottest new nail trends that you can be done at home or at a local salon.


This season of LA Hair premiered on Thursday, June 6, 2013 at 10:00 pm EST on WE TV, and will air every Thursday thereafter at 9:00 pm EST until the final episode of the season on August 22, 2013.

NAJA REVEALS NAILS STYLES FOR KATY PERRY"S LATEST CAMPAIGN!


West Hollywood's Naja Rickette was the nail genius behind Katy Perry’s current Pop Chips campaign, where she created a variety of different nail styles for the superstar.





“I love working with Katy as she is always very hands-on with her look,” confided Naja. Because there was limited time for the shoot, the producers originally asked Naja to do a light pink or blue on Katy’s nails for all the shots, and then planned to digitally create her nails later.





“When Katy arrived I told her the plan, and she said ‘no way!’ Katy is very involved in her look and every step of her career, and there was no way she was going for that,” said Naja. “She gave me specific direction for the various looks she would be embodying during the shoot, and I produced them right there on set using Kiss nails press on tips, which are super easy to work with.”





Naja explained she complemented the sultry look for the singer with LCB Lulu color. For the launch of Katy’s signature flavor, Katy Kettle Korn, Naja started with a black nail with hot purple french tip which matched the colors on Katy’s custom-designed Pop Chip bag. And, for the last look of the day, Katy wore workout clothes, no makeup, and Orly Gel FX in Sheer Nude gel polish on her fingers.






Naja also introduced Katy to the scotch tape manicure during the shoot by placing small pieces of tape over dried polish of one color, and then adding another color on top of the tape. Removing the tape creates different colors and intricate lines.



“I did the scotch tape manicure on Katy using CND Inkwell and raspberry parfait and she loved it!” exclaimed Naja, “and after the shoot Katy donated the scotch tape manicure set of nails to POP Chips.” Naja also mentioned that the scotch tape manicure is great for home nail art fun and for those starting out in nail art, as the lines of the tape help to create straight lines every time.
