How to Remove Makeup Staines?

Quick & Easy Ways to Remove Make-up Stains From Your Carpet Let’s face it, nail varnish and make-up stains happen. We can be the most careful we’ve ever been, and we’ll still find a splodge of bright red polish on the carpet, or a smudge of foundation on our clothes. Whether we’re tidying up the house before our nails have had time to dry, or we’re pulling a tight top over our newly made up faces, stains happen. That’s something we have to live with. What we don’t have to live with, however, is stubborn stains that won’t go away. Many of make the mistake of thinking that nail varnish and make-up stains will be around forever; but that’s because we use the wrong products, and the wrong techniques, when trying to clean them up. In using the wrong methods, all we’re doing is spreading the stain across a greater area, making it look 100 times worse. If you’re looking for some handy hints and sure-fire ways to get rid of those stains, then you’ve come to the right place!

If however, your problem isn’t solved in this article, there are plenty of online resources when it comes to cleaning – just choose a reliable source for tidying up really nasty stains and messes to ensure you’re not going to damage your clothes. Dealing with Nail Varnish Stains How you remove nail varnish stains will really depend upon the type of carpet you have in your home. If your carpet is a regular nylon, wool, or polyester carpet – something that’s relatively hardwearing and durable – then the best option is an acetone-based nail varnish remover. Simply apply to the stain, and dab (don’t wipe) with a cotton ball or old dishcloth. Never use tissue paper, as it could break up and leave some particles in the fibres of your carpet. However, if you’ve got a more delicate carpet or rug, such as knotted pile or embroidered carpets, it’s best to stay away from acetone – it’s quite a strong solvent and can damage delicate fabrics. Instead, try applying some hairspray onto the stain. While hairspray also contains a solvent – ethanol – the amount is extremely low and` very safe to use. Allow the hairspray to dry so that the carpet becomes hard and slightly sticky, and then rub the stain with a hard bristled brush – voila! Foundations, Eye Make-up, and Lipsticks The problem with modern make-up is that it’s specifically designed not to come off. We’ve got waterproof mascara, ‘24 hour’ lipsticks, and even foundations that are supposed to give you a flawless complexion for days at a time. While that’s good news for our faces, it’s bad news for our carpets. One of the ways cosmetics companies ensure a long lasting finish is to fill their products with natural oils which have moisturising effect and help the colour absorb into the skin, rather than keeping it on the surface. Even make-up that is marked as ‘oil free’ still contains natural oils. Yes, really! Revlon’s Age Defying Oil Free Make-up, for example, contains coco-glycerides, derived from vegetable oils, according to the US Department of Health. So what makes oils such a nuisance to remove from carpets? The primary factor is that oil and water don’t mix, so trying to flush the stain out is going to be a fruitless task here. Instead, grab a can of shaving foam and spray the soap onto the stain. Massage it into the fibres before rinsing out. You could also use shampoo or dishwashing liquid – anything that is designed to cut through grease and oil whilst still being gentle. Just remember not to scrub or wipe the stain, as it could spread. Dab, dab, dab, and you’ll have a clean carpet in no time! Try it and see!
